Kaidan Honsho Nanafushigi plot

The Tanukis are invisible beings who take pleasure in fooling and terrifying people. They can take on any human form, as well as that of animals and other fantastic creatures. One day, one of the Tanukis is captured by villagers who plan to kill the creature. The wealthy old Sazen Komiyana takes pity on the creature and in exchange for some money the villagers let the Tanuki go. Later, the Tanuki appears to the old man and she vows to protect him from possible harm. When Sazen returns home, he finds his deceased brother's son, Gonkuro Komiyana, with whom he has severed all ties. However, his second wife Osawa and Gonkuro are old acquaintances and both are greedy for money and each other. They hatch a plan to take down the old man and his son Yuminosuke Komiyana.
