Kagirinaki Hodo plot
Sugiko Shima (Setsuko Shinobu) works as a waitress in a tea room and dreams of better times instead of living in poverty. She receives an offer to become an actress, but doubts whether it is for her, after which her roommate Kesako Nakane (Chiyoko Katori) takes the opportunity. Her chance for a better life seems far away, but then one day Sugiko is hit by a rich mother's boy Hiroshi Yamanouchi (Hikaru Yamanouchi). They fall in love and, against the wishes of his family, decide to marry, after which Sugiko moves in with Hiroshi and his mother and sister. However, both ladies treat her condescendingly and Hiroshi is too weak of character to assist his wife in this.
