Kaakum Karangal plot

Shankar's father dies for lack of medical help. His mother trains him with great difficulty as a surgeon. One day, as a doctor, he visits Mahalakshmi, a rich girl, and the two fall in love. Mahalakshmi's father, Subbaiah, objects to this, but eventually agrees when she has to leave his house. Shankar and Mahalakshmi get married, but their different backgrounds create problems.
