American prima ballerina Joy Womack succeeds in being admitted to the Bolshoi ballet school in Russia. Few western women have done this to her and the institution has an unusually harsh reputation. Joy is assigned the mentor Volkova who teaches her a lot about the profession.

Ouch, ouch, not so good. Conceited American dancing girl leaves for Moscow to get into the Bolshoi, but gets a rude awakening. The usual themes in this area (malnutrition, overtraining, physical and mental exhaustion) are neatly spooned up again, the element of surprise is that this time it concerns an American in Russia. Of course she has to deal with discrimination and nationalism, but it is difficult to root for her because she is not that sympathetic.
Furthermore, mainly a high thick wood / plank content. Especially the ridiculous scenes with the stars and stripes mother, who now and then hops into the plane to serve as a saving angel, are of the embarrassing kind. Even the very smearing Kruger, here directly walked away as a villain slash femme fatale from a 70s Bond film, cannot save this apparently fact-based work.
