Jennie Gerhardt plot

Jennie Gerhardt, daughter of poor and hardworking parents, is employed with her mother washing Senator Brander's clothes. One day, the kind Brander takes Jenny out for dinner and dancing, and after confessing that he is in love with her, he proposes to her. However, Jennie's father distrusts Brander and forbids her to see him again. Jennie obeys her father until her brother is arrested for stealing coal for their stove. She seeks help from Brander.
