Jean de La Fontaine - Le Défi plot

August 17, 1661. While the flames of the fireworks over the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte die out, a new star rises: the young King Louis XIV wants to confirm his power. Nicolas Fouquet, finance minister and owner of Vaux-le-Vicomte, is arrested by d'Artagnan on the orders of Colbert, one of Louis XIV's most loyal ministers. While all artists turn their loyalty to the king, and no longer to their patron, poet Jean de La Fontaine remains loyal to Fouquet. Colbert is provoked by his stubbornness, but the king is not worried. However, the king and Colbert underestimate La Fontaine's parables and fail to ban the publications, but the people are not deceived and La Fontaine becomes one of the most published writers of the time.
