Ion is a poor farmer in Transylvania around 1900. He is in love with Florica, but chooses to break up with her to marry the richer Ana and get ahead in life. However, her father does not like Ion. Ion cannot forget Florica and continues to look for her, while Ana begins to realize that Ion does not love her.
