In the Hand of Dante plot

A New York underworld smuggling ring acquires the original manuscript of Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. The mafia asks the intelligent Nick to authenticate the document. In a fit of lust, Nick steals the manuscript and, with his beloved, embarks on a dark and violent path to hell. Parallel to this unfolds Dante's odyssey, trapped in a loveless marriage. He flees to Sicily, where he creates his masterpiece.
