How to Survive a Broken Heart is set in the periphery of Amsterdam where the Urban Cowboy DC (Erik de Bruyn), Gina (Bonnie Williams) and Giro (Alejandro Agresti) try to keep their feet in the Amsterdam subculture. DC has been abandoned by his girlfriend, wants to go to Hollywood and, out of desperation and lack of money, enters 'chicken races'. Gina is pregnant and abandoned by her boyfriend Frank. The Russian Giro is unemployed and lives in his car. Gina falls for Giro and DC tries to snare Giro to take his place at a chicken race.
