almost 20 years (and 3 messages) later, this film managed to charm me again. It's quite crazy how quickly this film was defunct, especially since it was one that was released with English subs. A rarity in Japan, unfortunately it didn't help much.

Visually it remains very beautiful, with monochrome cinematography that still manages to ensure that the story (with flashbacks) is not too difficult to follow. The characters are fascinating, the setting is slightly mysterious and the acting (combo of Japanese and Korean actors) is good.

Maybe within about 10 years the film will get a chance at a second life, as everyone becomes a fan of the 00s again. For now, I'm afraid it's a bit too early for a reappraisal. But in any case a gem that should certainly be rediscovered. Hopefully with a little visual polish, that's the only thing really missing.

4.0* and a extensive review
