High Tide at Noon plot

"The dramatic ebb and flow of a young girl's love..."

Much of the isolated island of Nova Scotia is owned by Stephen MacKenzie and his family. The other residents, mostly poor lobster fishermen, rent land from Stephen. Joanna is Stephen's 17-year-old daughter, and the wealthy Simon Breck and the fisherman Nils Sorenson are in love with her. Then Alec Douglas visits the island and Joanna falls in love with him and they get married. After three years of marriage, Joanna learns that Alec is a gambler and now has $600 in debt to Simon. Alec leaves the impoverished Joanna by leaving for the mainland. However, Stephen's son Owen sabotaged Alec's boat, causing it to sink and Alec to drown. The widow Joanna is then back in the picture with Simon and Nils and both come into conflict with each other. But then it seems that the islanders want to drive Simon off the island.
