Kós Ferenc is a soldier who returns traumatized and handicapped after a hard time at the front. He is told that his wife has passed away and that his son is being cared for by his hunchbacked sister-in-law Tera. She tends to his wounds and keeps him isolated from the rest of the village in the hope that one day he will fall in love with her.
