Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa plot
A Gowok, a figure from the Javanese tradition, had a role that was both rare and provocative: she was hired to initiate future grooms into sexuality and the female body. They did not draw on the Indian Kama Sutra, but on the Serat Centhini, a special twelve-part work on the cultural, spiritual and sensual aspects of Javanese life. In “Gowok: Javanese Kamasutra” Hanung Bramantyo mixes the rich history with a strong human story in a love story about personal desires, but also about the vulnerable and threatened by change tradition.
