Jefferson "Jeff" Russett runs a wood processing business. Jeff's brother Steven "Steve" Russett returns from Paris after a long time away and starts working in his company. But already Steve meets Jo Barton, the attractive and temperamental owner of a rival lumber company, and he starts working for her. Jeff is tricked into signing a contract by Steve that allows his arch-rival Jo Barton to use the rail network across his property. Jeff forbids Steve from entering his property any longer and Steve then flees in a plane. Along the way, Steve runs out of fuel.
