Flight from Destiny plot
Todhunter is a professor of philosophy. After learning that he has 6 months to live, he is denied education by his university who don't want a scandal because he could drop dead in front of the class. Todhunter asks others what they would do in his place. One of them says he would commit a "social murder": murdering someone who is not a criminal but without whom society would be better off. The professor becomes obsessed with this idea when confronted with a situation where it could become reality.
