A very good book adaptation, since the movie is just as bad as the book. Muurbloempje - who studies literature, of course - meets a wealthy yuppie with a mother complex and gradually becomes hornier and hornier. Played very exaggerated by Dakota Johnson, who also looks like she has something to do with it. Pristine sex scenes and a terribly pretentious soundtrack; let's put all the hip names of the moment on 1 CD. A lot of hysteria about a lot of nothingness.

“Because I'm fifty shades of fucked up, Anastasia.”
I don't belong to the target audience and I admit, that certainly played a part in the assessment. But even then, Fifty Shades of Gray is a very bad movie full of terrible characters, nonsensical dialogue (see quote above), lousy acting and laughable situations. If you can't even make the sex scenes exciting.... It produces a lot of dull and remarkably prudish scenes. It all looks slick and Dakota Johnson has some strong scenes at the end.

I didn't really think the film was prudish (for a Hollywood production anyway), but that doesn't make Fifty Shades any less saddening.
Dakota is a beautiful girl but what an annoying role she has, as a shy troelala who falls for the wealthy but troubled Mister Gray (although, he especially for her). This Dornan, however, is mostly a dull bitch, making these two the most ambet movie couple in a long time.
It is mainly the dullness that kills this film, two hours almost without tension, there is simply nothing of value put into the film outside the SM perspective, but it is so little.
