The talented pianist Carola Weber (Anja Kling) lives in the GDR. She tries to flee to the FRG, but is caught and ends up in prison. There she is treated by Professor Wolfgang Limberg (Ulrich Noethen) who gives her medicines for psychosis. The consequences of this are so serious that she has to give up her career as a pianist. Years later, Carola is happily married to doctor Jochen (Tobias Oertel). He knows nothing about her past and the two have a pleasant life. Until Jochen introduces his new colleague in the hospital to Carola...
