Een Vrouw van het Noorden plot
It is 1889. After the death of her older husband, a professor of archaeology, the young Dutch widow Emilie (Johanna ter Steege) travels to an Italian seaside resort, where she wants to relax. Hugo (Anthony Calf), her late husband's assistant, welcomes her. He has been in love with Emilie for some time, but waits until the time of mourning has passed and he can officially propose to her. The young Italian officer, Aldo (Massimo Ghini), is also staying in the same hotel. Fascinated by Emilie's beauty, Aldo tries to break open her timid restraint. He seduces 'the young widow from the north' and tries to cure her lack of zest for life. Emilie falls for Aldo's advances until she gets to know him better.
