Nice movie about a mother with a drug addicted daughter who gets her into trouble. The movie starts well as a fairly raw drama with a twisted mother/daughter relationship. However, the plot quickly takes over. More than enough happens, so the movie certainly remains entertaining. Furthermore a good cast, but 3.5 stars is just a bit too generous.

Reasonable thriller / drama. The story is quite nicely put together with a twist that is a bit too easy. The elaboration in the form of a mix of drama that turns into a thriller is quite successful. The pace is fine and the mother-daughter relationship comes out well. The thriller part is quite exciting and as a viewer you sympathize with the strong acting Moore. As mentioned, the twist at the end is a bit too easy, but certainly not disturbing. But a bit more attention to the ending would have been better. 3.5

Kate [Julianne Moore] is depressed after the death of her wife Patty [Kristina Valada-Viars]. She has almost no contact with the outside world and it is only her ex-husband Richard [Kyle MacLachlan] who has kept her ranch from going bankrupt. Then her addicted daughter Claire [Sydney Sweeney] shows up to (once again) take advantage of Kate's motherly love, but this time the consequences are unimaginable. Thanks to the impressive cast (including Domhnall Gleeson as a sneaky dealer), this melodramatic psychological thriller is definitely worth watching.
