Shambu Mahato is a poor farmer who lives in a village with his wife Parvati 'Paro' and son Kanhaiya, he has just enough land to support his family. After years of drought, there is famine in the region. After it finally rains again, local landowner Thakur Harnam Singh wants to set up a mill on his land together with a businessman from the city.
