Die Sonnenbrucks plot
Professor Sonnenbruck is a scientist and wants to keep politics far away from his profession. His meeting with his former assistant Peters in 1943 does not change him either. He does not betray a refugee from a concentration camp and that is more than enough for him. Only at the end of the war does Sonnenbruck have a conflict of conscience. In fact, he believed that science would finally be free from political meddling. But at his university in Göttingen he experiences the opposite. A medical conference in West Germany leads him to meet Peters again, who is now working on a major research contract. Sonnenbruck starts to have doubts about this, but decides to continue his life.
