Die Dreigroschenoper plot
The scene is London in 1902, when the Boer War is raging and the climate is favorable for less sensible practices. Macheath belongs to the burglars guild and sells his loot in his so-called B-shops. In the long run, he succeeds in displacing all his competitors from the market. The businessman Peachum has set up a network of beggars, which gives him quite a bit of slack. Nevertheless, he wants to upgrade his business to a respectable level, but the only way he can do that is through amoral, criminal means.
