Der Tanz auf dem Vulkan plot
Debureau personally dislikes the king, seeing in him a rival for the favors of the beautiful Countess Cambouilly. The king orders his singer to sing satirical songs about his rival to the throne, the popular Prince Louis Philippe. When one day the king graces Debureau's theater with a visit, the battle of songs and pamphlets escalates. The famous actor hurls thorny songs at the monarch's head. For this he is arrested and sentenced to death. But even on the way to the scaffold, the intrepid folk comedian makes a grand entrance. With his hit song "The night is not just for sleeping" he sends the yawning masses into a storm of excitement and revolt.
