After spending 7 years in a Stasi prison in Bautzen for trying to flee the GDR, Wolfgang Stein is ransomed by West Germany. In the reception camp for former GDR citizens in Unna, he falls in love with the beautiful nurse Anna. But will the ghosts of his past leave him alone to start a new life?
