When the progressive pastor of the hamlet of St. Michael gives shelter to the pregnant Angela, the congregation speaks shame. Reverend Linhart must be the illegitimate father, they think. Especially if he takes care of the baby after the mother's death. Twenty years later, the baby has grown into a handsome young man, but when he chooses the courtship path, evil rumors resurface.
