Der Kinoerzähler plot

Paul's (Andrej Jautze) grandfather (Armin Mueller-Stahl) is an explicateur in Herr Theilhaber's (Martin Benrath) Apollo cinema, where he explains the silent films shown there. Sometimes he adds luster to his story by playing the violin. The arrival of the sound film threatens its existence. When the Nazis take matters into their own hands, he hopes that this party will hold those traditional values so high that they will re-introduce the silent film.
