1883: In a Venetian palazzo, Cosima Wagner clings to the remains of her husband Richard. She cannot accept the death of her husband and therefore demands that her children - Isolde, Eva and Siegfried - do everything in their power to ensure that their father's legacy is not lost to future generations. Bayreuth's future is at stake, and against the will of the Festspiele organizers, she is the new head of the Wagner Festival. Because continuity must be assured, she demands that one of her children will succeed her afterwards. Heir to the throne Siegfried, however, has very different ambitions...
