Deep Valley plot

The poorly educated and shy young farmer's daughter Libby Saul lives with her discordant parents on a remote ranch in a valley in the state of California. Libby suffers from a speech disorder, until she falls in love with the wild and flammable Barry Burnette, a San Quentin inmate, who is put to work with fellow inmates in her valley. Libby resists the advances of Barry's supervisor Jeff Barker and remains loyal to Barry. One day, Libby helps Barry attempt an escape.
