Matthijs Vermeulen died in 1967 without having heard his last symphony. During his lifetime, his music was either not performed or years after it was written. Music was life itself to him, but life did not allow him to hear his work. Symphonies, songs, chamber music: it remained an almost unopened diary. Now, twenty years later, his work is being played, his entire oeuvre is on the record. The diary is open.
