Eliot and Ava once adopted Enguerrand. He knows that he has been adopted, because his skin color is clearly different from that of his parents, and he knows that he is actually from Africa. Enguerrand has a self-made hut on the beach and one day he sees a man with a rowboat, chased by another boat, arriving at the beach. When Enguerrand sees that this man has the same skin color as himself, he is convinced that this must be his father.
