Chushingura Gaiden Yotsuya Kaidan plot
Because Lord Asano has committed ritual suicide after his failed attempt on the higher-ranking nobleman Yoshinaga, the 47 ronin, former vassals of Lord Asano, intent on revenge, roam the land. One of them is the biwa player Tamiya Iemon who is in love with Oiwa, a whore who offers her services in local bathhouses. Because Iemon ultimately prefers money and good name to his love for Oiwa, he decides to get her out of the way. He poisons her in order to marry the granddaughter of a wealthy nobleman, who belongs to the enemy's clan, Yoshinaga.
