Children of the Mountain plot
Single mother Essuman gives birth to a son with a cleft lip and other physical complications. The woman is looked at and held responsible for it by the community. Determined to help her son, she spends years trying to find cures for her child. Her son is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which prevents him from sitting, talking or walking like his peers. She loses faith in the hospitals, but the alternative healers trick her, take advantage of her despair or mislead her. Ultimately, community pressure and the stress of caring for a disabled child forces her to make some drastic decisions.
