Cause Célèbre plot

Alma Rattenbury is the young wife of the distinguished architect Francis Rattenbury who is now over fifty years old. Alma has become unhappy in her marriage and has entered into a relationship with 18-year-old handyman George. When this affair develops further, the naive and inexperienced young man can no longer contain his jealousy and kills the architect with a hammer. This is followed in 1935 in a trial in the Old Bayley in London where both lovers are charged with murder.
