Box: Hakamada Jiken - Inochi Towa plot

On June 30, 1966, in Shimizu, the owner of a miso factory Fumio Hashiguchi and his wife and children are brutally stabbed to death. The killer stole 260,000 and then set the family house on fire. The police immediately launched an investigation and, on July 4, 1966, arrested Iwao Hakamada, a former boxer and an employee of the miso factory. He confessed after three weeks of intensive interrogation and was sentenced to death. Today, Iwao Hakamada is still awaiting the execution of his sentence and would have been forgotten if his case had not been brought constantly by Norimichi Kumamoto, one of the three judges who had to try him and the only one of the three to declare him not guilty. Kumamoto is convinced that Hakamada is innocent and tries to get him released.
