Medical student Allan Demarest Meighan secures an internship at the General Hospital after saving the life of a man trapped after an explosion. Allan is in love with the student nurse Claire, but she is married to the abusive Tom Donahue. Claire, who refuses to leave Tom, advises Allan to marry Patricia "Patty" Sloan, whose life he saved. Patricia is furious with Allan for spending too much time on his profession rather than their marriage. Patricia's suspicions about Allan having a love affair with Claire are reinforced when Tom is taken to hospital after a serious accident. Patricia then leaves Allan for doctor AA'Tony' Wolcott. After some time, there is a train accident and Patricia is taken to the hospital with a badly disfigured face. Allan, now a successful doctor, reconciles with Patricia and has to choose between her and Claire.
