Belizaire the Cajun plot

Belizaire (Armand Assante) is the unofficial representative of his Cajun people in southwest Louisiana. He comes into conflict with local white extremists who want to make the region Cajun-free in the years before the American Civil War. His ex-girlfriend (Gail Youngs) is now the wife of his biggest opponent (Will Patton), also the son of a wealthy landowner. When he is murdered, they try to put the blame on Belizaire.
