Beefcake plot
Images of "masculine beauty" can be seen everywhere these days, from advertising posters to hardcore porn. But it was different about 50 years ago. While female pin-ups were ubiquitous, for a beautiful male body you couldn't get further than a photo of a statue of Michelangelo. A man like Bob Mizer met the need with his 'muscle magazines', such as 'Physique Pictorial'. Under the guise of a magazine for sporty men, he published photos of well-muscled boys. Over the years, he photographed and filmed tens of thousands of models. But he balanced that on the edge of the law. Especially when it turned out that he sometimes had the boys he was in charge of doing something else than just posing... In his film 'Beefcake' Thom Fitzgerald tells the story of Bob Mizer (played by Daniel MacIvor, known from 'The Five Senses^'). The feature film fragments are interspersed with interviews with fellow photographers from Mizer, with fitness guru Jack LaLanne and with several former models, including Joe D'Allesandro ("flesh", "trash").
