Amakusa Shirô Tokisada plot

1637. The Tokugawa Shogunate wants to banish Christianity and other foreign religions. Japanese Christians are forced to publicly renounce their faith on pain of death. Shiro Tokisada is a Christian leader in Shimabara where a local landlord squeezes his population with extreme taxes and puts pressure on the Christian population. Tired of the oppression, a section of the population turns to Shiro in hopes that he will take the leadership of an uprising.
