Am Galgen Hängt die Liebe plot

Greece in 1944. A wounded Greek resistance leader takes refuge with two old people. The hospitable and accommodating elderly take care of him. A German lieutenant is also wounded and ends up in the same house. He dies from his injuries. The corporal who accompanied him returns to his troops. To avenge the death of their officer, they shoot some hostages. The leader of the Greeks does not want to accept that the old people have acted out of charity and condemns both to the gallows.
