Norma Brisbane discovers after her father's death that the family's garden has shrunk considerably. Refusing to spend the rest of her life in anonymity and without money, Norma asks her childhood friend, the son of a rich man, to pose as her husband. This way, Norma can keep coming to her rich friends' weekend parties. The Duke of Duffield, who is engaged to the hostess' daughter, also appears at one of those parties. Norma wins a bet with the Duke and invites her to help him. The Duke has written a number of incriminating letters and these letters are now in the hands of Emerson Trent. Norma accepts the invitation to put the letters back into the Duke's hands. Norma discovers that Trent was the cause of her father's demise.
