Ai Weiwei's Appeal ¥15,220,910.50 plot
Ai Weiwei's Appeal ¥15,220,910.50 begins with images from the opening of the Venice Biennale, in the summer of 2013. Here, the mother of the Chinese conceptual artist, political activist, philosopher, architect, photographer and filmmaker shuffles around between his huge installation SACRED , an overwhelming depiction of his captivity. Then the film jumps back in time to March 2011: the Chinese police raid the Ai Weiwei studio because the artist is suspected of tax evasion.
