Abjad plot
Abjad is set in Iran in the late 1970s, just before the Islamic revolution. Emkan is a curious, inquisitive and also religious boy who lives in Saveh, a very conservative city. All things the teen is interested in - calligraphy, music, photography and film - are condemned there. At the Koran school, Emkan sits next to Maasoum, his new girl next door. Her father runs the local cinema, for which Emkan paints posters. Emkan falls hopelessly in love with Maasoum, but the parents of the two are not happy about this: Maasoum is Jewish. The rebellious Emkan does not give up his love for her and the passion for art; he fights heroically for his ideals.
