When Mathilde (Kinski) has car trouble, she is helped by Thomas (Lambert). Eventually they fall in love and they want to have a child together, but Mathilde cannot have children. Thomas asks for help from a professor Cardoze with whom he works to get Mathilde pregnant. They do this in an illegal way, because the child that is born is a bit more than Mathilde's child, because it is her clone.
