Doctor Paul La Roche, a prominent surgeon, ends up in a prison on an island off the coast of France. He was sentenced to ten years in prison for performing euthanasia on a patient suffering from an incurable disease. The prison warden is corrupt and the jailers are sadists. When a prisoner grabs a warden's gun, he shoots the prison warden. The local doctor is unable to remove the bullet. La Roche is promised a pardon if he can save the director's life...
