Judge Hoffman is a solid, determined presence in his courtroom, qualities that will serve him well if he decides to run for governor. Senator Simon, with all the scruples of a hungry ferret, tries to bribe Hoffman into taking his place in the Federal justice system instead of running for office. Prosecutor Dan Callahan, who is also running for the same position, also has a no-nonsense approach to politics and will not change anytime soon. The situation gets more complicated when it turns out that Senator Simon's wife, Cathy, was once in love with Hoffman.
