A Caixa plot

A Caixa is set in a poor neighborhood of old Lisbon. An old blind man lives in a neighborhood consisting of a few steps up and down streets, who earns his money by begging. He uses a special box that is provided to some by the government for this purpose. His daughter who lives at home does the housework and also works as a laundress. Her unemployed husband lives off the money his wife and father-in-law earn. Several local residents are jealous of the blind man's coffin, so they keep a close eye on it. Some of them make plans to steal the box. When the object is indeed stolen at some point, everyone suspects each other and the tensions degenerate into violence
