An engineer begins an affair with his best friend's wife. However, he is blackmailed by a servant. He decides to pay the money and sells a sailing yacht to his friend. But he is murdered and the engineer is now under suspicion. His mistress tries to defend him. They then decide to flee to North Africa, but soon they are tormented by remorse.
