May was fourteen when she was the victim of a gang rape. The trauma is so great that she has since withdrawn completely. She does not speak and spends her days in her father's safe house, which she never leaves. He too has not recovered from the rape: he blames himself enormously for not being able to protect his daughter. He is loving to her, but outdoors he is a boxer who takes all his anger out on others.
