Zwelidumile plot

Dumile Feni is one of the greatest and most enigmatic contemporary artists from South Africa. By zooming in on the life of this artist, the film aims to contribute to a better understanding and recognition of the role of black artists in the recent history of South Africa. Zwelidumile Feni (1942-1991), referred to by some as 'the Goya of the townships', was already a celebrated artist when he himself expelled himself during the apartheid era and eventually ended up in New York. He knew of Mandela's release in 1989 but died just too early to return home to a democratic 'rainbow nation' South Africa.
