Zwart Goud onder het Notecka Woud plot
Last year, the largest oil field in Poland was found under the fairytale Notecka Forest. The poor inhabitants of the forest don't seem to care. Neither the idea that the oil could make them rich, nor the idea that mining it would likely seriously affect their main source of income, the forest itself. Black Gold under the Notecka Forest is a documentary about poor people who manage to get by with cheerful scurrying and clandestine activities. In the fairytale forest of Notecka, Andrzej, the cynical owner of bar 'In het Hert', serves sausage and beer. After Sunday Mass, Maria and Josef are happy to tell how they came here from Lvov in '46. Furthermore, the often illegal trade in fish, cigarettes and cars provides a living. In Zwart Goud under the Notecka Forest we get to know the relatively unknown and new heart of Europe better from the residents themselves. In addition, the intrigue of the black gold under the forest is told; an intrigue that sums up part of that history in a nutshell.
